...or why it is important to choose a professional

Would you ask a carpenter to build a nuclear reactor? No? Then read on...

Translation is an art. Right? No? "Translating is a job, like any other job", you say. No? What is it then? The transposition of a word in a language into a different language? Maybe. But this is a oversimplified approach. Translators need to be aware of the mechanics of translation as well as of the cultural, historical and emotional implications. This is why it's important to choose a professional translator. Like me. Someone who is perfectly aware of the cultural nuances of the source language and has a unsurpassed command of the target language.

"The limits of my language mean the limits of my world"

 Ludwig Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, 1922

Well, it couldn't be simpler... that's why I translate from English into Italian only. Because, as a professional, I'm only allowed to translate into my own language, the language I grew up with. As simple as that. And this is why I belong to professional associations like ITI and IoL, who promote actively their translators and interpreters and fully support this sensible approach. And I'm professionally bound to their code of conduct.
